There is an elegant solution to this problem. In Microsoft Intune a Device Configuration profile can be created that will change the Windows 10 edition on behalf of the user. The version can be changed manually by getting the user to enter the new product key and uplifting the version, or by creating a provisioning package that gets handed out on a USB stick. Both these methods require the end user to do something and this situation may not always be ideal.
There are many reasons why someone would want to change the version of Windows 10, but one of the most common scenarios is in a BYOD/CYOD scenario. Employees/Students are told to purchase a retail device which generally would come with Windows 10 Home installed on it. However, a different version of Windows 10 is required to fully access corporate or school resources. The version required might be Windows 10 Pro (so the device can be domain joined), or Windows 10 Education or Enterprise to make the most of advanced security features or volume licencing.
